Gambrel timber frame barns have a symmetrical roof line with both sides having a duel-slope. The upper roof is more flat to maximize headroom, and the lower roof is quite steep. This lower steep roof provides for a fully useable second story.
Monitor style timber frame barns have a large center aisle with shed wings on both sides. The large center section is much taller than the attached wings creating a wall area above the shed roofs that can display windows that provide natural light.
