Gambrel barns have a symmetrical roof line with both sides having a duel-slope. The upper roof is more flat to maximize headroom, and the lower roof is quite steep. This lower steep roof provides for a fully useable second story.
Gambrel barns offer the most inside cubic feet of storage than all other barns and were and are used to store a great deal of hay bales.
The larger Gambrel’s are very functional for raising and caring for farm animals and horses.
Gambrel barns can be either a single story barn or a two story barn. The gambrel style can be set up with a full or partial cathedral ceiling, a simple storage loft, or a full second floor to store hay, or anything else for that matter. Some folks have turned this space into an office, and apartment.
Gambrels make a beautiful barn style home as well.
